I am tired of the insane enthusiasm for every single collaboration in the world. The fact that it is so incredibly positive. I do not think that it should be bitchy or anything, but there is no rigor as far as looking at style.

This is what happens when the director of Raging Bull gets together with Manny Pacquiao

Martin Scorcese directed a Hennessy commercial starring Manny Pacquiao that is awesome in a very Martin Scorcese kind of way. Still when it comes to brand ambassador’s for the liquor company, it’s hard to top Humpty Hump and his “I’ll take that bottle of Hennessy you’ve got on your shelf, but first let me introduce myself.”

The first person to land a 1080 on a skateboard isn’t Tony Hawk, or Shaun White, or PLG. It’s a 12-year-old, named Tom Schaar. My takeaway from this is that my 22-month-old will be pulling 1260s by her third birthday and that I shouldn’t be surprised if baby-to-be has 1440s dialed by the time she comes out of the womb next month. No pressure.

Want to see a really long video about a mediocre waist-high wave? Of course not. What if it is a really long artsy video about a mediocre waist-high wave? Yeah, it’s probably still a no. I think the folks at Nowness might want to stick to LED-suited snowboarders.

As a D.C. sports guy, I will always refer to Horace as “The Other Grant Brother.” I don’t know if Harvey could’ve carried off these Zubaz though.

Natty Bo’ gets a classy can to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Camden Yards. Unfortunately (fortunately?) nothing was done to class up the taste

I don’t think I’ve ever worked on a story with someone who was more appreciative of the coverage than Daewon Song. Even years after the fact, he would always make sure to thank me. One of the truly good guys in skateboarding. But who cares about any of that, the guy rips and is basically skate stopper-proof.

This is the only Duke that I can get behind, Duke Kahanamoku. Aside from being the father of modern surfing, an Olympic swimmer, and actor, he also managed to look pretty friggin’ gangster on a trip to the East Coast as this photo shows. I’ve always taken a bit of pride in sharing a birthday with the Duke, and now Surfer magazine has come up with this handy guide to following in the legend’s footsteps. All I have to do next is engage in a battle to the death with a 10-foot eel.

I wrote a story on a blind skateboarder once and was blown away by that. This is next level.

So Gap appears to be taking a page from Apple’s “Think Different” ad campaign by appropriating classic images of icons to sell some khakis. It’s basically a classier version of “Celebrities, They’re Just Like Us” pages in tabloids. What I would like to see is Charmin do a campaign in the same vein. Retire the bears and replace them with images of Muhammad Ali and Jack Kerouac with the tagline, “He took dumps. He used Charmin.”
